新西兰时间现是几点?

New Zealand Time (NZT) is 12hr ahead of UTC (Universal Coordinated Time) and 27hr ahead of EST (Eastern Standard Time). This means that at the moment of question, it's 8pm in New Zealand but only 5pm in San Francisco right now.

In December 2011, NZT was changed to UTC+13:00 from UTC+12:00 as part of a move towards adopting more of an Australian time zone. Before then, NZT was 1 hour behind UTC all year round. The new system is being introduced over four years with each year’s change taking place during the first week of January. So far the change has taken place on Jan 4th, Jan 1st, Dec 31st, Nov 30th 和 Oct 31st. On June 30th 2014, NZT will be 45 minutes behind UTC. On July 1st 2015, NZT will be 1 hour behind UTC. And so on until the last day of 2017 when there will be no difference between NZT and UTC. From 2018, NZT will always be one hour ahead of UTC. The only exception is during the winter solstice, when DST does not apply; at this point the two zones will have different start and end times for daylight saving.

Because Australia and New Zealand are so far away from most major population centres, their time zones tend to go unmentioned unless you need to specify exactly where something happened. Most of the time I write about New Zealand history, people assume my reference to “New Zealand” means Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch etc. and don’t look further into what I mean by “the other 99% of the country”! In my latest book I talk about how British settlers used local Māori time markers – such as sunrises, sunsets和 high tides –to set their clocks and calculate the date and season. With the introduction of accurate European-made clocks to the colonies, the connection with the natural world gradually faded out of practice after the mid-nineteenth century. Nowadays we can use our smartphones to check the actual current time anywhere in the world… or we could just ask Google.
